FINDS IN BRAZIL

In August I went to Brazil to visit my family.  I was supposed to stay there for about a month, but I had to extend my stay… I had some documentation issues to resolve and some health problems in the family that contribute to extent my time there.  I felt anxious in the beginning when I find out that I would have to cancel my fight back home and push my time. I needed to come back to US and take care of my life, work to do, etc.  But when you find out that there was nothing that you could do, except to wait for things to resolve, so then you just have one decision to make...  I decided that I would take advantage of the time and really have a great time with my family, friends and enjoy the city that is blooming and expanding.  So one of my activities there it was to take walks every morning and sometimes in the afternoons, exploring the area where my mom lives, where I was staying.  One day during one of my long walks I found this fantastic space (Deposito Rustico - Moveis e Decoracoes) filled with amazing pieces of furniture and all kinds of decorative objects… things very regional mixed with very international classic pieces.  The space is huge and full of small and big treasures.  You walk around and at every single corner you can find a different kind of object: lucid, or sexy, textured, smooth, strong, or delicate, colorful, woody, urban, or country…  What a fun place to shop!  Ah! Another thing that intrigued me it was the fact that the “deposit” is located in a residential area, kind of in the middle of nowhere. It’s hard to explain, but the huge store/kind of a barn is totally out of place.  For me it was definitely a “find” in the town.  How great is to find places like that while you are waiting for the next airplane!

A really like the mix of materials on the store facade.

They also manufacture your own designs and dimensions.
Here are just a few ideas of what they can do.

Isn't massive and solid this bench? Beautiful...

Love this bench!

Furniture made of bike pieces.

How cute are these ludic objects!

DESIGN ON A DIME

This weekend Housing Works Thrift Shop/NYC had their seventh annual Design on a Dime fundraising event. On Friday I went there to support it and of course, enjoy it. Perhaps… shop! I really like this event because it mixes creative and renamed talents of the design world; with charity and good intentions… It’s rewarding to know that designers can create beautiful spaces, and at the same time “Get a Room” for homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Being part of this event is one of my plans… I believe that we can produce luxurious rooms and help the less privileged people in different ways… Being part of this event is one of the ways…

I took pictures of all the rooms that were there, but here I am going to post just some of the rooms because there are a lot pictures. If you want to see all of the rooms you are invited to look at them in RG Art & Design's Facebook page _ Design on a Dime Event 2011.

However, I have one criticism about the event... I wish they didn't let people take their purchased pieces until the end of the show!

I call this one: "The Bad Guy Room"

This one I call: "Asia-Deco Elegance"

This one... I call: "Bold Lines & Shapes of Expressions"

Hum... for this one... "Lemon Splash"

This one I call... "The Angel's Fall"

The center table is my inspiration for the name of this room! The base is made of a pile of newspaper, so... I call this one: "Sunday Morning"

"Should I marry, should I buy a bicycle?! Should I get a bike, should I marry?!" For this one: "Free Spirit Girl"

This one... I am not so sure what name to give it... but I might call it: "The Outdoors Inside In"

What name would you give to this one?

How about this one?

I like to call this one: "The Beach Cottage of the South"

Maybe... "The Wild Side of Me"

How about for this one... "The Eclectic Fusion"?

This one? "Life is... The Sounds of Music"

..."Rustic City Paradise"

I really love the elements of this room... But I don't have a name for this room?! :-(
Do you have any suggestion?

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL OF YOU, BEAUTIFUL!!!

GET THE LOOK SERIES: Binibeca-Menorca-Spain-A HIDDEN GEM

This week I have been really concentrating on finishing the plans for our next vacation, coming this summer. We (me and my hubby) are planning to visit Spain and Morocco this time. I am calling the trip: “The Magic of Spain & Morocco”. While creating these travel itineraries, sometimes I get so fascinated about certain places that I can almost visit these places before I really go there… It happened yesterday when I was studying one of the “stops” of the trip: Menorca Island, Spain...particularly this small town called Binibeca. The houses, which look like a colony of bees, are all white with dark wood beams, surrounded by rustic stones. I don’t know much about the concept of style… But if you know anything about it, I would appreciate it if you could share the information with me. The fact is that I got so allured by these textured and interlaced habitats that I started (in my mind) creating the interior for one of them.  By the way... if you cannot go to Binibeca, you can bring Binibeca to you! Seems to be an inspiring place… I will find out when I get there this summer. I can’t wait…!

A PERFECT WHITE & BLUE HOUSE

PERFECTION: According to the Oxford dictionary the word perfection means: act or process of making perfect. 2. State of being perfect; faultlessness; excellence. 3. perfect person, thing, or example. 1 refinement, enhancement; …. 2 purity, flawlessness, … 3 ideal, …, model, etc…
Anyway, this morning I spent a long time speaking on the phone with one of my best friends, talking about very philosophical and psychological subjects. It was a productive conversation about life… relationships, interior essence, family, career, kids, husbands, passions, etc and etc… It was insightful to both of us! At the end we talked about perfection… How we {human beings} are always looking for perfection; the perfectionism in ourselves, the perfectionism in others, the perfectionism in our lives, in our houses, in the world. Well, maybe not everybody is looking for perfection. By coincidence, last night before I went to bed I found this “absolutely perfect interior house”! I never saw even in magazines such a perfect interior like this one that I am posting here! I was dazzled by such an accomplishment! It’s just amazing how idyllic it is. I want to congratulate the interior designer, Sherrill Canet, the photographer {who I don’t know the name – if somebody out there knows his/her name, please contact me}, the stylist {the same for the stylist}; and the owners for creating this incredibly perfect house! It’s so perfect that it is almost not real!
